US Air Force (USAF) STAFF Sergeant (SSGT) Myron Verett and USAF SSGT Joseph Trumbull
of Task Force (TF) 1041 conduct a dismounted patrol near Balad Air Base (AB), Iraq (IRQ).
TF 1041 is comprised primarily of Airmen from the 820th Security Forces Group (SFG),
Moody Air Force Base (AFB), Georgia (GA), and supports DESERT SAFESIDE during IRAQI FREEDOM,
by performing patrols, searches, and engaging Anti-Iraqi Forces,
these missions are traditionally performed by US Army (USA) units.
This is the first time USAF Security Forces (SF) personnel performed
such missions since the Vietnam War.
Both are armed with KAC 5.56 mm Modular Weapon System (MWS) SOPMOD

on the Wasp Class Amphibious Assault Ship USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7)
on Sep. 19, 2006 in the Persian Gulf.
The IWO JIMA is on a six-month deployment in support of Maritime Security Operations

Air Force B-2 Spirit, B-1 Lancer, and B-52 Stratofortress bombers expended more
than 80 percent of the tonnage dropped on combat missions over Afghanistan to date.
The Air Force flew more than 600 sorties including strike missions against al Qaeda
and Taliban targets in Afghanistan. These targets include early-warning radar systems,
ground forces, Command-and-Control facilities, al Qaeda infrastructure, airfields and aircraft.
